Fashion Liberation

Fashion Liberation

I feel that a major fashion shift has been happening in the past few years. It is the death of the trends and the rise of individuality. The designers are showing more of what that they stand for and less of what the trend forecasting houses are dictating. There is no well defined trends each season but rather variations of the same few major movements that have been valid for ages – floral prints for summer, fur for winter, stripes, colour blocking, etc… At the same time people are wearing whatever they feel like with a higher doses of individuality than ever. As Anna Wintour puts it, there is no more privacy any more, people are extremely exposed (usually by choice), everybody follows everybody on twitter, pinterest, instagram, facebook…you name it, and this is where we get our style inspiration from, by looking at other people’s style. I think this “trend” is a huge fashion liberation, there is no rick of looking dated and old-fashioned any more, it also allows for dressing for once body type and silhouette rather than trying to be modern. I, as someone who is all about dressing for your personality, think that all this is great and it will allow more people to find their personal style and stay true to it. It also liberates us to dress for our mood…the 20’s, MOD, vintage, anything that comes to mind goes and I love that…
